THE INFINITES - Strip 57

                                                             Previous Strip

That's right! There was a previous arc! And a couple of Nick Briggs.

Actually in all seriousness Nick Briggs has played the Doctor a few times. One of the stage play audios, Exile, The AVs and I don't think that's the end of the list.

Actually there might be a few strips in that... Hmmmm.

In other news Nesshead is currently at SDCC. If you come across him buy him a drink.

And that's it from me for this week.

Ness Says: Hope everyone enjoyed the last few strips. More to come in the future. Al has some new scripts for me. Until next time my Whovians.

THE INFINITES - Strip 56

                                           Previous Strip

As I've mentioned before I've been digging around Merlin's history for Loose Canon. The biggest surprise so far is that in Merlin's appearance in The Neutron Knights (a 4th Doctor comic) he doesn't say anything that rules him out of being the Doctor. Quite the opposite in fact. Also the 4th Doctor's memory was quite fuzzy afterwards, almost as if he'd just met a future version of himself.

I've also uncovered evidence that the Muldwych Doctor isn't just an older version of the Battlefield Doctor, but I'm keeping that under my hat until Loose Canon comes out. Got to keep some surprises.

                     Previous Infinites   Next Infinites

And we're back. The last time we saw these guys they were breaking into the studios at Big Finish. Which begs the question; has anyone seen the Nth Doctor recently?

Some of you may recognise the Infinite's guest as the Merlin Doctor from Battlefield. I've been doing quite a bit of research on him of late for 'Loose Canon' and the next few strips are proof positive of that.

In other news a group that I'm quite involved with, The Glasgow Doctor Who Society, are mentioned in their previous regeneration as the Strathclyde Doctor Who Society in this month's DWM. Before my time, but still a nice surprise.

Right I need to get moving. See you all next week.

THE INFINITES - Strip 44

Oh yes, we've gone there. Big Finish.

Actually I've been meaning to come here for a while, but you guys are going to have to wait until next year to see why and what's going to happen. I've written a good chunk of the Big Finish outing, but haven't had a chance to type it up and send it to Nesshead yet. We're in the process of planning out the Christmas schedule and then I hope to spend tomorrow afternoon typing up scripts for the three strips and getting a writing buffer back into place properly.

And yes I'm aware Colin Baker is missing. It's not an accident. You'll discover why in time.

Now, last week's episode of Doctor Who. Wow.

Although I was a little disappointed that it wasn't the pure single hander that we'd been promised it was still an utterly outstanding performance from Mr Capaldi and I can't wait to see what happens next. Although it strikes me as odd that when 'The Impossible Astronaut' aired that the Moff insisted that one of the main cast was definitely going to die and then didn't, but this time around the Doctor was killed repeatedly and properly yet no one mentioned it in the build up. I'm very glad they didn't, would have been a hell of a spoiler, but still, strange.

And yeah, the Infinites seem a little more finite now. That was a serious amount of skulls floating in that river.

Anyway, I'm off now. Looking forward to tonight's finale and also the the finale party that the Glasgow Doctor Who Society are throwing at the Flying Duck tomorrow night. Catch you all soon.

THE INFINITES - Strip 43

And here's some new Infinites. It's been far too long and great to see them back. With a Star Trek crossover no less. I didn't really much of Voyager, but it always amused me that they had a character known as the Doctor. Although it would seem our own Doctors aren't nearly as amused.

I've got about a dozen scripts for Jim and Nesshead that I need to type up so they can get the buffer back up and running. It's a constant source of frustration (for myself as well) that I write all these on paper first and then have to type them up. I did try a few times just taking photos of my notes, but neither Jim nor Nesshead could decipher my handwriting. Not an uncommon complaint.

More Infinites next week, then it's onto the Christmas schedule which includes some new Prop Cupboard and Who's Cat.

THE INFINITES - Strip 41

Previous Strip Previous Infinites Next Infinites

He's not wrong. 'Exile' is tremendous fun, but it's totally insane. It stars Arabella Weir as the Doctor and at the risk of spoiling it slightly Nick Briggs has a cameo as the previous Doctor. If you ask me though the real fun comes from the pair of Time Lords attempting to track down the Doctor, one of whom is played by an actor we're all pretty familiar with. Look just go out and get it from Big Finish, you can thank me later.
Arabella Weir went on to guest star in 'one of the Matt Smith Christmas Specials alongside Bill Baily and I was disappointed that more wasn't made of her turning up. Mind you I didn't make the connection til later myself....
A slightly earlier draft of today's strip was previewed to a small selection of folk at the Glasgow Doctor Who Society as there are a couple of them who are fans of alternate Doctors (in fact Dave has dreams of cos playing as the Nth Doctor) and I thought they'd get a kick from it. They laughed, so I'm hopeful you guy'll do the same.
Right I'm going now as I'm typing today's blog in Facebook messenger so Jim can copy and paste it straight into here. So please forgive any mistakes I made may of.

THE INFINITES - Strip 34

Yes, the Cushing Doctor is about to throw his coat over what he thought was a Dalek. The Doctor has previous form in this regard, check out the opening episode of 'The Time Meddler' if you don't believe me.

For those of you that aren't familiar with him the gentleman with the microphone is the Nth Doctor as played by Nicolas Briggs in the Audio Visual Adventures in Time and Space. The Audio Visuals were the precursor of Big Finish and quite frankly a model of how sometimes fan fiction and fan fuelled productions can lead on to bigger and better things.

The reason that he's holding a microphone and speaking like a Dalek is that Briggs is now the official voice of the Daleks on New Who. This is going to get complicated. So complicated that I need to write another few strips tonight and send them to Nesshead.

Needless to say I have a plan here and this is the beginning of a series of arcs that'll spread out over the year.

I have plans....

THE INFINITES - Strip 28

                                                                 First Previous Next Latest

Jim here writing the blog this week. Alasdair's had a slight accident and is resting so he's asked me to step in.
More Time War madness this week but not as we know it! Another cross over this week brought to you by Alasdair and Ness Head on art duties. One can only wonder where it goes from here.
Again Ness has captured the Enterprise crew from the two different time zones perfectly.
I'm particularly pleased with Ness Head's art this week due to the fact that I'm in it! I've been assimilated! Those who know me personally will tell straight away but for those that don't I'm the right hand male Borg in the middle. I didn't know I was appearing until it was sent to me last week. Believe me, I was surprised to say the least.

Other new this week is I'm working on a strip for the UNIT Fannual - a follow up to the popular Peter Cushing based Dr. Who Fannual that came out earlier this year. A prospect I'm really excited about as this'll be the first full Doctor Who based comic strip I've done solely for a printed publication. Good times.

A quick reminder that I've created a Facebook group for In Print. I would urge you all to join it, especially if you've not been getting all of our updates. We've found that although we have about 5,000 of you liking us on Facebook that each update tends to reach less than 200 of you. Being part of the group means that you should see each and every update. We've also been showing off pre-strip sketches and alternate designs for some characters. Come and join us over there!

Right, that's me signing off for this week, hopefully Alasdair will be back to entertain you next week all being well. See ya!

THE INFINITES - Strip 27

Looks as if the War Doctor has gotten a little lost on his way back to the Time War. This is a War and it's certainly got quite a few similarities to the Time War, but it's not quite right is it?

Although that moon in the 2nd panel looks a little familiar....

Is this a thinly veiled excuse to have Nesshead draw Star Wars stuff or is there a plot coming? You'll find out next week.

But would you really be upset if it was the first reason....

THE INFINITES Strip 23

                                                             First Previous Next Latest

That's a lot of 8th Doctors. Can you identify them all?

For a man that has only appeared twice on the telly Paul McGann's Doctor has had quite a significant mileage in terms of adventures and looks. Nesshead has drawn the most note worthy versions, plus one of my favourites, for this strip. Which begs the question; do all these versions exist within the Print Verse?

Perhaps, time will tell on that one.

We're coming to the end of the Grand Tour, there's only a handful left and once we're done we have a brand new arc drawn by Jim coming up. The fall of the 11th.

Wonder what that's about....

THE INFINITES Strip 22

Here we go.

It's the Other(s) again. We last saw them in the conclusion of 'Paradox Now'. They're appearing here as the 7th Doctor was more in tune to his possible past selves than the other Doctors, as detailed at various points during the 'New Adventures'.

I've been looking forward to this one for a long time now, the concept of the Other is what edges the 'New Adventures' past the other books from the 91-05 period for me. It's also no accident that outside that range my favourite books remain 'The Infinity Doctors' and 'Cold Fusion'.

The Other also got some vague references throughout Series 25 and 26 (we don't talk about Series 24) in amongst various games of chess.

So, yeah, this strip is more than a little bit indulgent for me. I hope you guys enjoy it just as much.

THE INFINITES Strip 21

And we're back on Tour. There's a bit of a change this time as we find the Great Intelligence setting up a regeneration we've already seen. Mel's outfit should have told some of you that this set just prior to 'Time and the Rani' and provides an alternative explanation to the crash. The New Adventures suggested that the aspects of the 7th Doctor caused the early regeneration of the 6th Doctor, quite frankly the most disturbing reason for a regeneration apart from the 2nd Doctor's. So how does that fit in with what we're seeing today? I'll leave that up to you guys to discuss in the comments.

Next week sees the next instalment of the Tour and it's the one I've been most excited about. I can't wait to see what Nesshead makes of it.

THE INFINITES Strip 20

Ha! Weren't expecting that were you?

There's a few things going on here, but Nesshead hasn't seen the episode this comes from yet and there's spoilers abound. I had to send him screen caps to keep him spoiler free, so he has no idea the significance of this scene.

So, let's try spoiler text...

In case it hasn't worked; best stop reading now, Nesshead.

This is, of course, where Adric is meant to die. The Great Intelligence saving him tells us a couple of things here.

Firstly; it's a great way to mess with the Doctor's time stream. Without the regret that accompanied Adric's death the Doctor might not have been compelled to regenerate into the gentleman we know as the 6th Doctor, after what was his last word?

Secondly; we're starting to get an idea that maybe the Doctor is starting to affect the Great Intelligence as well as the other way around. I've always thought that saving Adric was probably the first thing the Doctor would change about his own past. We've never seen regret on the Doctor's face the same way it appeared on 5's at the end of this episode.

And now we resume normal service...

In other news I'm a little frustrated that I can't get hold of a copy of 'Trial of the Valeyard'. At least not just now, I'll have to wait a year before I can buy it unless I invest in a subscription and quite frankly I don't want to pay that for a single disc. I don't suppose anyone out there has a copy they'd mind lending me their copy?

No? Bugger.

Right, we've got one more strip from Jim for this year then we're interrupting the arc for two reasons. One is to give Jim and Nesshead a break over the holidays (don't worry, Jesse and I have back up covered) and the other is that the end of next weeks strip makes for a good cliffhanger. Not quite as good as the Panic Button, but I still think it works pretty well.

See you all next week and have a Very Merry Christmas in the mean time!

THE INFINITES Strip 19

Apologies to anyone who was looking forward to the 5th in today's Grand Tour, We've taken a slight detour, we'll see the 5th next time, but not where you're all expecting him. Sorry Johnny.

On a related note, we begin to see where we're going with this arc as of today. The Great Intelligence needs a change of clothes after posing as the Watcher and look at the set of clothes he's picked out. I wonder if this is going somewhere...

I try and not talk much about myself on here, but I'm going to steer away from that this week. I work as a Science Technician at a High School in Scotland. My school is currently trying to win giant Lego robots for the Physics department. Why does this concern you? Because we need people to click on 'Barrhead High' to get us votes, the school with the largest number of votes gets giant Lego robots to help teach the pupils.

Giant. Lego. Robots.

And I'd get to use them. In a professional capacity.

So, if you wouldn't mind clicking the link and choosing 'Barrhead High' that'd be much appreciated.

Next week we have... well what do we have? Where can we possibly go from the new 7 dissolving the TARDIS? Will there be an In Print next week?

Tune in same Bat Time, same Bat Chann.... hold on, that's not right. We'll see you next week and all shall become clear.

Speaking of our Store, we have some new Tshirts that feature a recent edition to canon, go and have a look.

THE INFINITES Strip 18

Logopolis this stop and this is where things get interesting. That's a future projection of the Doctor that the Great Intelligence is posing as, you can't do things like that without serious repercussions.

But more on that when we get to the next stop of the tour.

It's a bit of a big week next week, I'm sure you guys might have heard something about it. I'll be posting up the blog next week then I'll be going into hiding, I don't want spoiled. I'm catching it at the cinema an hour or so after broadcast. Well hopefully. My little girl is going for surgery the day before and if she needs me I'll be staying put in the house. Tickets are booked though.

What I'd really like to be doing just now is discussing that Minisode, but given that Nesshead hasn't seen it and is saving it as an intro to the Special we won't be discussing it. I have to say that I really envy him, that Minisode would be an utterly fantastic way of opening the Special and I'm a little sorry that's not going to happen.

It has however given me several ideas for next years arcs for the strip, so I'm going to try and get them written today as well as the guest strips that'll be airing over Christmas and New Year to give our regular guys a break.

THE INFINITES Strip 16

Given the re-release of some 2nd Doctor episodes this week it seems pretty fortunate that we've chosen to focus on a 2nd Doctor story this week. Kind of.

This is more a behind the scenes type affair, but seems like a good point to cause some divergence and chaos in the Doctors time stream. It also appears to be an origin of sorts for the Web of Caves Doctor, certainly within the In Print Verse, bet none of you were expecting that.

This is, of course, the Time Lords deliberating on the face of the 3rd Doctor. If you've seen The War Games, and if you haven't correct that soon, then you'll know that the 2nd Doctor refused to choose a face, so the Time Lords chose for him. The gentlemen sitting in the background are the faces that were flashed up as options. They were done as fairly basic pencil drawings and Nesshead has done a great job of fleshing the out.

So where are we going next week?

Don't forget that we have Twitter and Facebook pages and that you can support us by visiting our store and buying something.

THE INFINITES Strip 15

And so the Grand Tour begins. You can tell because of the limited edition banner we're using. You'll also notice Nesshead has finally stopped referring to himself as a guest artist. That's been needing done for a while.

The next set of Infinites strips will give you guys our particular take on what really happened when the Great Intelligence entered the Doctor's Time Stream, because I'm not utterly convinced that all he did was stand around and glare with his arms folded. There was a chance to do real damage and what better way to disrupt the entire Time Stream than by ensuring that the very first regeneration never happened? It's not as if the 1st Doctor could have put up much of a fight at this particular point. This is, in my opinion, the most fragile point in the whole of Whovian history.

We'll be following the Great Intelligence on his Grand Tour right up until and through the 50th Anniversery and beyond. Seems a proper way to celebrate. How does this all tie into the ongoing Infinites story? You'll just have to trust me that it does and wait and see.

So, where next?

Don't forget that we have Twitter and Facebook pages and that you can support us by visiting our store and buying something.Which reminds me; who'd like to see the above strip as a Tshirt or a poster?
