THE RE-INTRODUCTION TO THE 'IN PRINT'-VERSE

We're back and it's about...

No. Stop it. That's been done to death at this point.

We've rather neglected you guys over the last few years and had a number of false re-starts. Hopefully this one sticks.

I'm acutely aware that we've been especially quiet over the 13th Doctor era. This absolutely isn't a judgement on Jodie Whittaker's take on our favourite Time Lord, it's not even a judgement on Chibnall's era. Honest.

I certainly have opinions on how Chibnall ran things, but we've always tried to be positive on here so...

But there are a few things he brought to the table that I think will have a lasting impact and legacy on Who. I know I'm not in the majority, but I loved the idea of The Timeless Child. The idea of the Doctor being crucial in the founding of Time Lord society has distinct echoes of the Other and of course I love that.

The Fugitive Doctor was a breath of fresh air and I really enjoyed the reintroduction of a bit of mystery to the Doctor's past. Expect to see her on here in the near future.

And he finally gave us closure on just who the Morbius Doctors were. That was nice of him.

He also gave us Arachnids in the UK. So you know, swings and roundabouts.

IN PRINT - 127

                                              Previous Strip   Next strip

Because we needed one more cast member.

As much as I enjoyed Bradley's Doctor I couldn't quite buy him as Hartnell's Doctor. So he's getting a space in this strip.

As Jim might have mentioned I turned 40 last Saturday. I'm still recovering. Was a good weekend though.

And a month from now we're getting new Doctor Who in about a month. Finally. There's a script I wrote when she was first announced that I might get Jim to revisit. Especially as I've been relistening to Exile this week.

If you're in the Glasgow area tomorrow you should come and join me at Lok's to see Peter Cushing deal with a Dalek Invasion. It'd be nice to see you.

                                           Previous Strip   Next Strip

A very quick post today as I'm knee deep in family business.

As you can see 7 and 8 have caught up with the rest of the country in regards to viewing.

I quite enjoyed Bradley's Doctor and the morphing at the start made it clear this was OUR first Doctor. Jury is still out on Richard Hurndell.

I'm approaching the half way mark in updating the navigation links. Geez we've done a lot...

IN PRINT - 125

                                                Previous strip   Next Strip

And that's the end of this arc. Not bad considering we kicked it off in March last year.

Though to be fair it was a longer arc than we've been used to, but still.

I managed to start re-doing the navigation links in the earlier strips and managed to avoid disrupting the front page at all. Hopefully that's a trend I can keep going over the next week or so.

A brand new main strip arc starts next week and you'll see that we're starting to catch up with the main timeline. Personally I can't wait to see how Jim and Nesshead handle the 13th Doctor.

Time will tell. It usually does.

November since we last checked in on this arc huh? Jim's right, it has been a while.

But we're getting back on track. I've got some strips to send to Nesshead and Jim's got plenty to work on just now.

I'm going to be spending the next week updating our navigation links as well as our Reading Order and Archive. So there may be the odd occasion where the front page is actually an old strip. Please bear with us whilst we  mess this up, it'll be better for it in the end!

THE INFINITES - Strip 57

                                                             Previous Strip

That's right! There was a previous arc! And a couple of Nick Briggs.

Actually in all seriousness Nick Briggs has played the Doctor a few times. One of the stage play audios, Exile, The AVs and I don't think that's the end of the list.

Actually there might be a few strips in that... Hmmmm.

In other news Nesshead is currently at SDCC. If you come across him buy him a drink.

And that's it from me for this week.

Ness Says: Hope everyone enjoyed the last few strips. More to come in the future. Al has some new scripts for me. Until next time my Whovians.

                               Previous Strip Next Strip

And we're back again with the main strip! It's Jim here writing this week as Alasdair's off on paternity leave due to the exciting little person waiting to arrive in his and his partners lives. Thanks to Ness for last weeks Infinites strip, hopefully we'll be seeing more from him later in the year. This week we introduce a new character into the InPrint'Verse but a very familiar one to the fans of the New Adventures and Big Finish. And let's face it we've been discussing her in the strip since the very beginning. Welcome Bernice Summerfield!

                                                    Previous Strip  Next Strip

This was written long before the 13th Doctor was chosen, but it really doesn't read like that does it?
There was a slight mix up last week and I referenced a strip that I've written but that Jim hasn't drawn yet. It's hopefully coming soon and it'll confirm that we here at In Print Towers are very much in favour of the new Doctor.

In other news I've just sent Jim a whole new batch of strips to Jim and Nesshead will be getting some soon as well. Sorry for the delay in getting things back to normal.

IN PRINT - 113

                                    Previous Strip    Next Strip

We're back and it's about time.

And yes, this strip is a ringing endorsement of the In Print team regarding the casting of Jodie Whittaker. She's a good actress with a solid CV, anything else is purely window dressing as far as casting the Doctor goes.

We've been a wee while getting things back on track and the responsibility lies solely with me.

I don't talk much about my private life on here, but a small handful of you know my divorce was getting finalised this year. Nothing to get down about, it's very definitely for the best, but it takes time and focus to deal with these things. Also, to give things a more positive spin I met someone else last year and since then we've moved in together and are expecting next month. However in between love, babies, co-habitation and engagements I found a lump.

You don't need any further details than that, just that everything's resolved as far as that's concerned and it won't hold up the strip any longer.

Jim has a series of scripts that should take us past my paternity leave and I re-read the entire run of the Infinites yesterday and Nesshead should have new scripts in the very near future.

So, yeah, sorry about the gap, but a massive thank you to Mike and 2ndFade who kept it smaller than I could have hoped.

It's good to be back.

The Gallifrey Exchange #2

                                                    Previous Strip   Next Strip

The Gallifrey Exchange is brought to you entirely by Jim as I attempt to get more strips to him. Life is drifting towards the new definition of normal, but not quite there yet.

And in other news Capaldi seems to be leaving. A shame, but not a huge surprise. I've quite enjoyed his performance, but I'm not utterly convinced that he's had the best of circumstances to perform in.

THE BOILER ROOM OF OBSCURE DOOM...!

                    Previous Prop Cupboard  Next Strip

Way down deep in the Boiler Room of the In Print 'Verse the Ice Warrior DJ's are celebrating the return of their glorious race in tonight's episode of Doctor Who. For those unfamiliar with the Boiler
Room, they are a series of televised recordings of various underground DJ's performances from across the globe. You can find most of these uploaded to YouTube, check some out - The Boiler Room TV .
Today's art comes courtesy of 2NDFade, a regular round since very early on. You can find more of his abstract art here -- http://www.2ndfade.com/

                                              Previous Strip Next Strip

I've been toying with introducing River ever since 'The Name of the Doctor', since she obviously has some kind of connection. So here she us!!

There might be a slight delay before the next strip whilst we deal with writing buffers.

By which I mean I've lost the damn scripts and we haven't finished unpacking yet...

IN PRINT - 111

                                                       Previous Strip   Next Strip

I for one believe him.

As you can see it's still the Nth Doctor from the Infinites masquerading as Mr Briggs. Speaking of the Infinites; there's more of them coming soon as well. I spent some time discussing them with Nesshead on Friday. Some fun stuff coming very soon.

So, Doctor Who is back. It's been fun, hasn't it? I'm especially enjoying Nardole, which has been a pleasant surprise as I couldn't stand him in either Christmas special.

I'm not complaining.

Previous Strip Next In Print '66 Strip

Isn't technology grand. This is my third attempt at this blog today. Thankfully I didn't delete the strip

after all. I really need to fix my PC. Doing this and the scripts from my phone is getting really, really old.

Today comes from Jim. Back to my scripts as of next week all going well. Though I'm going to miss knowing what's coming. Today's strip made me grin.

IN PRINT - You Won't See This Coming...

                                        Previous Strip   Next Strip

And I'm back.

I've not been around much of late. Had a little bit of a health scare that's since been resolved, but had taken a good bit of my attention.

But like I said I'm back. I have a whole bunch of main strops written that need typed up and sent to Jim and I'm re-reading the Infinitestate so I can get some scripts off to Jim.

Today's strip was meant to be part of an upcoming arc, but works just as well as an standalone strip. I like the idea of all these 12s wandering around.

The Dressing Room Part 2 - Jim Wilkins

                        Previous Instalment  Next Instalment

Happy New Year!

Hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas/Holiday period, I certainly did!

I rather enjoyed The Return Of Doctor Mysterio, it was a nice comedic episode that didn't take itself too seriously. Which was well needed after some of the darker stories of the previous series. Matt Lucas was a joy to watch too! Can't wait to see how he develops in series 10.

Anyway, here we are with another instalment of In Print cheesy fun. Hope you all enjoy and we'll be back again next week to conclude the silliness.

IN PRINT - 107

                                  Previous Strip     Next Strip

And that's it for this arc. Seriously this time. I've checked with Jim and everything.

The two 10s are looking as if they're going to be quite the visual double act. I can see them cropping up in the back of panels even when I've not asked for them to appear. Luckily I trust Jim's visual judgement on these things. Speaking of which; as much as I would like to take credit for 'The Doors' joke at the end that one was 100% Jim. Kind of wish I'd thought of it though.

Back to the Infinites next week and you guys are in a for a treat. I can't say anymore than that, but just wait....

IN PRINT - 102

                                            Previous Strip  Next Strip

Everyone's a critic!

Five years ago today Jim and I were nervously watching the stats back on the DWRS website to see if anyone was reading the first ever In Print strip. Thankfully people were enjoying the strip and five years, 102 strips, umpteen specials and some additions to the team later we're still going.

There's been the odd bump along the way. Babies, illness, divorce and life will have that effect, but through it all we've kept going and there's no reason to think I won't be copying this entry five years from now to use in our 10th anniversary!

In other news I'm sure you've all heard that the new Companion is being announced today in the middle of something called a Fut baal mitch. I'm sure I'll find out through Facebook afterwards...

IN PRINT - 101

Previous Strip     Next Strip

He's right of course, the strip immediatly before this one started with 96 (TV Movie year) and finished on our 100th strip. That was a while back now, there have been plenty of real life delays and the likes at my end. My favourite delay is because I had to rewrite this first arc entirely after my friend David (don't call him Dave) from The Glasgow Doctor Who Society pointed that having a room 101 and a character essentially played by John Hurt was too good to pass up, If you don't get the connection then I suggest you go and watch 1984. Actually, no, I insist.

Of course David meant it as a one off strip, but the whole thing grew arms and legs and marched off in a whole new direction. Hardly the first time that's happened with an idea on here.

Anyway. Of course if you're doing a strip referencing 1984 then you really need to have 5 and 6 present. You just do.

Hard to believe we're into April and this is the first main strip of the year. Still it's just in time to help mark our 5th anniversary. I can't quite get my head around that idea, it just doesn't feel like it at all.

Right before I sign off for this week I'd like to point you all in the direction of my friend Kenny. Some of you may have seen Kenny before as he's appeared in Doctor Who: Besieged (actually I think it might have been a follow up to that, I'll need to check), a fan film of a superior quality directed by and starring Ryan Hendrick as the Doctor. Recently Kenny and Ryan have collaborated on 'Perfect Strangers' which has been doing rather well for itself and are currently working on it's follow up that boasts none other than Sylvester McCoy in it's cast.

But it's Kenny's current project that I feel deserves highlighted just now. Kenny does a one man show called Hero Worship that he's currently trying to take to the Edinburgh Fringe later on this year. The show tackles two subjects that are incredibly dear to my heart; mental health and superheroes. However going to the Fringe isn't cheap and Kenny is looking to raise money to help get him there. You can donate here if you're so inclined, every penny helps.

Right, that's me done. I'll see you all next week for a surprise guest star that my son pointed out should have appeared in the strip ages ago. See you then.
