THE INFINITES Strip 16

Given the re-release of some 2nd Doctor episodes this week it seems pretty fortunate that we've chosen to focus on a 2nd Doctor story this week. Kind of.

This is more a behind the scenes type affair, but seems like a good point to cause some divergence and chaos in the Doctors time stream. It also appears to be an origin of sorts for the Web of Caves Doctor, certainly within the In Print Verse, bet none of you were expecting that.

This is, of course, the Time Lords deliberating on the face of the 3rd Doctor. If you've seen The War Games, and if you haven't correct that soon, then you'll know that the 2nd Doctor refused to choose a face, so the Time Lords chose for him. The gentlemen sitting in the background are the faces that were flashed up as options. They were done as fairly basic pencil drawings and Nesshead has done a great job of fleshing the out.

So where are we going next week?

Don't forget that we have Twitter and Facebook pages and that you can support us by visiting our store and buying something.

IN PRINT EPISODE 35

    Previous  Next

Am I the only person finding it hard to take 3 seriously with a bright red nose? Thought not.

Still that's the fight finally over, but we still have a few plot points to resolve. But you'll need to wait for them as it's the Infinity Doctors next week.

Speaking of which it's still not too late to throw your hat into the ring to take the reigns from Jesse with the Infinity Doctors.

This has been an exciting week for me as another, non- Gallifreyan, project got under way. More details as they firm up.

2013 is going to be a big year.

I really enjoyed the Doctor Who/Farscape crossover last week. Not Farscape? Of course it was. That was blatantly John Crichton with a badge.

Jesse's penultimate Infinity Doctors next week, like I said.

In the mean time we're still on Twitter and Facebook .

Oh and Sylvestor McCoy is on Facebook. He doesn't endorse or know about this site, but you should all go 'like him' and post him links to your favorite In Print strips with his Doctor in them.

If you're reading this Mr McCoy I'd just like to say you have been and always shall be my Doctor.

Thank you.

IN PRINT EPISODE 32

                                                            Previous Next

Before I get any Emails about it can I just say that I know the 7th Doctor wouldn't take part in a sword fight of this nature, I have seen Battlefield you know.

You may notice that Jim's using this fight to explore the TARDIS a bit more. What a great staircase for a sword fight.

As for the punchline? Well I'm referencing a plot development in 'The Room with no doors' by Kate Orman. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone who hasn't read it, so you can read up on it here.

A joke that requires research to become funny? Hmmm.

Hopefully it works for you. I've been wanting to reference one of Kate's books for a while, I've had the pleasure of corresponding with her (and her partner Jonathan Blum on occasion) due to my work with the DWRS and the current plot gave me the perfect opportunity.

In other news Jim is off meeting Jo Grant or Katy Manning) today. She's going to be signing a print of the strip she featured in not so long ago. To say Jim's a little excited might well be a bit of an understatement. So if any of you are also seeing Katy Manning at Forbidden Planet today be sure to watch out for Jim.

As usual keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook feeds and we'll see you all again next week.

And in the mean time we'll leave you with the two Doctors fighting with Light Sabers. Why? Well why not? Enjoy!

IN PRINT EPISODE 31

                                                              Previous Next

Beware of Scottish midgets. Not just a hint of what's to come, but good advice in general I feel.

When I wrote this particular strip I envisioned Three wielding a cutlass. Jim had another idea and gave him Ten's sword from The Christmas Invasion. A particularly nice touch I felt.

Speaking of Christmas, work began today on the Christmas Special. If you thought we pushed the boat out last year with our six page special, just wait until you see what we have planned for this years. Suffice to say that work is beginning behind the scenes just now.

The seeds for this particular strip were sown years ago when whilst watching Battlefield. The Doctor's refusal to fight and the casual way he strolled through a sword fight seemed to be in sharp contrast to the way the Three would of handled things.

I like to imagine different Doctors in different episodes on occasion and I found myself wondering how Seven would of dealt with the Christmas Invasion. With his umbrella of course.
More In Print next week. Holidays are in full flow just now, so you'll need to wait to see just which strip pops up/

That's code for "I have no idea myself"

As always you can follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

And let us know your views on an In Print book.

IN PRINT EPISODE 30

I'm utterly convinced that's how the other Doctors think of the 8th Doctor. It'll never matter that he had a whole run of comics and books or that he continues to have his own distinct line over at Big Finish. Nope, he'll always be Movie boy, even if he does have a new coat.

And yes, this is a running gag, it has been ever since the second strip. I have every faith that I'll use it again.

There's been a bit of buzz this week about the latest Paul McGann series from Big Finish. I wrote a bit about it and about his new coat. you can read that here.

Regular readers will know that we put forward our own theory on where the leather coat came from. I could be wrong, but I don't see Big Finish tying in with our version.

The In Print Fan Art Contest

Anyway, I'm about to go on holiday but before I do it's time to announce the In Print Fan Art Contest. We want to see your versions of our Doctors in any of our story arcs. Post entries either on our Facebook page or mail them to inprintfanart@googlemail.com. Please try and keep to characters we've used although that's not a strict rule. The chance to feature in our Fan Art Gallery and maybe even a Guest strip are up for grabs... we'll keep this open till the end of September just for now.

As always I'll just remind you all to check In Print on Facebook and Twitter.

IN PRINT EPISODE 29

                                                            Previous Next

I've never got the big deal about Rose. I don't hate her, I just don't see her as the trail blazer that everyone else does.

"Finally a companion that can look after herself." Except Ace could do that. Come to think of it so could Romana and Sarah Jane.

"She's a match for the Doctor." Not nearly as much of a match as Liz Shaw.

But it was the complaints about the implied relationship between the two that annoyed me. "The Doctor wouldn't fall in love with a human."

Wouldn't he? Tell that to Sarah Jane, Grace, Emma or Romana. The Doctor has always been close to his companions and the line always had a tendency to be blurred with some of the female ones. None more so than Jo Grant as featured in today's comic.

To my mind Jo was the first time the Doctor fell head over heels for a human. Don't believe me? Then have a look at this clip of them saying goodbye and tell me the Doctor isn't broken hearted.

Yet despite this people still get upset about the Doctor and Grace in the TV Movie.

But we're all ignoring the really obvious question here; just how did the third Doctor smuggle Jo into the Matrix?

Anyway, this is the start of a new arc and there's only going to be more questions as time progresses.

Bad Wolf bay always reminds me of Jacopo Camagni. It was his rendition of it that first drew my attention to his work and got him involved with the DWRS. The bay always seems to bring the best out in artists, for example I never asked Jim to draw it. I just had the lines of dialogue coming from the television set.

I'm quite glad Jim went this way instead, sets the tone nicely doesn't it?

Now available to pre-order is The Comic Strip Companion by Paul Scoones. The book covers the years 1964 to 1979 and is a full guide to all the Doctor Who and Dalek comic strips that appeared in annuals and comics such as TV Century 21 and Countdown.
Paul has a been a friend of the strip almost from the start, but that's not why we're plugging his stuff. Ok, it's not the only reason we're plugging his stuff. The man knows his Who comics and this book is likely to provide quite an education on the subject. He's also agreed to write the introduction to the In Print book, but only if more people say they want it. Only a couple of folk have shown interest so far sadly.
Paul is an accredited expert on all things 'Who' and writes production information subtitles for the classic range of  Doctor Who DVD's as well as having writing published in Doctor Who Magazine. In fact the very same magazine has an interview with Paul this month - issue 449, in shops now.
The Comic Strip Companion is available to pre-order right now at  our In Print store here.

As always don't forget to like our Facebook page and we are also on Pinterest now too.
