IN PRINT - 100

This strip has always been a little bit metatextual, but we thought we'd push things just that little bit further for today's 100th strip.

In case you're wondering the gentleman in the chair is our very own Jim, not Grandfather Paradox. Though the resemblance never struck me until Jim posted the Paradox Now cover in the blog section...

So, you should be able to work out that the person behind him is me, myself and I.

So, yeah, this week the Doctors are criticizing us rather than their modern day counterparts. I think it works.

I'm starting work on the next set of scripts for Jim and Nesshead has been sending some fun stuff in for the Infinites, so we should be in a good buffer zone for 2016. Although the fact that we're still running as we reach the 100th main strip is something that fills me with a quiet sense of satisfaction and achievement.

It's at this point I really have to say a big thank you to all the In Print artists (who have all become my friends) for letting me bring my first few ideas for a series this far.

Regulars Nesshead, 2ndFade and Mike Key for helping to expand the Print Verse beyond Plan A. You guys have been fantastic and I can't thank you enough for the feeling of family you guys have brought to proceedings. Nesshead's run on the Infinites has been a wonderful way for me to explore my favourite alternate Doctors. 2ndFade is covering Christmas duty this year folks, wait to you see what he's come up with. Mike went from recurring guest artist to one of our regular artists this year, and pulled our collective fats out of the fire.

Recurring guest artists Jesse Lax and Paul Salvi for indulging my tangents and illustrating them. I look forward to the day where I can work with them both on a more regular basis. Jesse has been a collaborator and friend since before In Print began and I've lost count of the hours we've spent discussing the more obscure elements of Whovian fandom. The Infinites began when I asked Jesse is he'd read 'The Infinity Doctors'. Paul was the guy that finally got me to stop being the guy who had an idea for a webcomic to being the guy who wrote one. I can't wait until he feels ready to come out of his Bill Waterson state of retirement.

But the biggest thank you has to be to Jim. Seriously dude, that's 100 strips we've done together. 100. I don't think either of us were quite prepared for how long we'd be able to keep this thing going, but that's 100 and I'm writing more as we speak. Despite the above scene Jim and I have never actually met or even spoken on the phone. Yet we've formed a friendship that goes beyond our involvement in the strip and given the ups and downs we've both had in the last two years I don't think the site could have survived without that. At the risk of being overly sentimental; about 100 strips ago I went looking for an artist. I found a friend as well.

A quick nod to Paul Hanley who has kindly let us borrow his utterly fantastic designs over the years and with whom I've shared more than a few Emails discussing alternate Doctors. It's been a blast man and I hope one day I can persuade you to either write or draw (or both) a guest strip for us.

Another thank you is to you guys. Our readers. In particular Lynsay and David at the Glasgow Doctor Who Society. I know you guys exist because Blogger gives me stats to confirm your existence, but Lynsay and David are the fans (and friends) that I've actually met. I knew I was going to get on with David when he casually mentioned that the only Doctor he could cos play was the Nick Briggs one.

One last thank you is due, this time to Christian Cawley, former Lord and Master of Kasterborous Towers. If he hadn't allowed to advertise on the K then I probably would never have worked with or met Jim and the site certainly wouldn't exist as it does today. So, thanks boss.

IN PRINT - 'SOMETHING' NATURE Part 7

And we're done.

"Emotionally vulnerable Science Teachers" made me giggle somewhat, mostly because I work with Science Teachers and none of them are what I would term emotionally vulnerable.

Jim quite often surprises me with these strips. That last panel, for example, didn't have the other Doctors in the background in the script, but I think we can all agree that they belong there. In all the years we've been doing this I can only think of two occasions where I've asked Jim to alter something he's done for, although it's possible Jim'll recall more. Given that we're coming up to the 100th main strip and multiple side strips I think that says something about our working relationship.

Next week we have a guest strip, either from Jesse Lax or Paul Salvi, we're still working on scheduling. But both of these gentlemen are providing guest strips  help Ness catch up to my late writing. So, yeah, guest strips for the next couple of weeks, but you guys know the quality of our guest contributors, you won't be disappointed.

IN PRINT - 'SOMETHING' NATURE Part 5

First     Previous  Next  Latest

The first time we saw the Doctor diving through the sky was during Lance Parkin's 'The Dying Days' in a scene so intense and exciting that it could have come straight out of a series finale, which is perhaps why it felt slightly familiar when the 12th Doctor did something similar in the last finale we had. We've also had the Shalka Doctor, as written by Paul Cornell, free falling in what remains the best TARDIS entrance in any medium. It's not hard to to imagine that the current Who team had those two scenes in mind when 12's free fall was put together.

Of course it's also possible that they'd been watching 'The End of Time', but then today's strip kind of falls apart if we go down that road.

In other news I'm still working on fixing the navigation links, unfortunately my plan to do them last Sunday was foiled by my five minute nap lasting significantly longer than planned. Soon though.

Maybe even tonight if I can shake this hayfever.

THE INFINITES - Strip 31

Now wouldn't that be a very cool team to have on Legacy? At this point in the time the only ones of them actually available is the War Doctor and K9, although we've been promised Ace in the reasonably near future.

Perhaps we should start the campaign for Frobisher here and now. What's the worst that could happen?

For those of you who have been wondering, and indeed those who haven't as well, I've included the team I've been playing with.

I keep feeling the urge to make up an 'In Print' team, but you can only have one Doctor and K9 is the only character available that's really been in the strip.

Unless you count the Adipose. You may have noticed that Jim likes throwing them in every chance he gets. But that still leaves us a good bit off getting a solid 'In Print' team put together.

Anyway, time I was moving. Next week sees the return of Jim with 'The Fall of the Eleventh". It'll see two new cast members joining us.

I wonder if either of them appear in Legacy...?

IN PRINT EPISODE 50

                                         First Previous Next Latest

So, here it is. Our 50th strip.

Kind of.

It's certainly the 50th main strip. But In Print has expanded well beyond my initial plans for it. It started slowly, Jim did a couple of Extras here and there. Then he did a whole multi page Christmas Special. Twice. We had a couple of Guest Prints here and there. One of which evolved into our semi regular Prop Cupboard of Obscure Doom. Jesse came on board for The Infinity Doctors which has become our regular Infinites feature.

What I'm getting at is that this is our 50th strip and our 117th.

So we've marked the occasion. I just love the special one off strip that we've done for this. Jim has taken my initial idea and really run with it. I've been teasing you guys for months that it'd make a good Tshirt. Was I right? Well it's up in our store now. You tell me.

That's about it for me for just now. Just a quick reminder that we're on Twitter and that we're having a poll about your favourite Unbound Doctor on our Facebook page.

IN PRINT EPISODE 46

                                                                      Previous Next

See this is what frustrates me about the companions since 2005; he travels throughout time and space, but only seems to collect girls from the early 21st century? In my opinion the most interesting companions in the last few years have been Jack and Rory. One's a Time Agent from the future and the other a recovered 2,000 year old Auton. To mind that's more in keeping with being a Time Lord's travelling companion. River has been interesting, but I'm not sure if I count her as a regular companion.

Given that the current companion has appeared in two other time periods before being revealed as being from the early 21st century I'm still holding out hopes that she might not be a walking cliché. We'll see I guess.

Hope you guys have been enjoying the Doctors watching the show again. Don't worry there's another arc coming, it might even cross over with The Infinites, we'll have to wait and see.

I got a text from Jim earlier this week all excited about pictures of John Hurt turning up on the internet. At first I thought he was just excited to see him appear, but he had a few observations about his outfit that tie into the strip. Mostly because it resembles the gentlemen to the right's outfit. Feel free to discuss his identity in the comments section.

We'll neither confirm nor deny....

Our Facebook and Twitter haven't been shut down yet, so go and sign up to them if you haven't already.

IN PRINT EPISODE 45

                                       Previous Next

And there's Frobisher. Just when you think we couldn't get any further outfield with our companion references. Just be thankful that I can't think of a joke with Fitz in it. I know Jim is. I have him drawing enough new characters as it is.

But you'll see the results for that in good time.

Frobisher, for those of you that don't know, was a companion of the 6th Doctor in the Comic Strips. He wasn't really a penguin, that was just the form he chose to adopt most, because who wouldn't want to be a penguin?

There's no new Infinites next week as Nesshead is busy with a display of Hanna Barbera Art. You can find out more here. You might even be able to pick up a Nesshead...

So next week and a fortnight later we'll be having some more Tales from the Prop Cupboard. We've had some from 2nd Fade waiting to appear for the last month or so. In fact one of them is a prelude to an upcoming mini crossover between the main strip and the Infinites.

Did everyone enjoy 'The Bells of St Johns'? I know I did, I especially enjoyed the surprise cameo from one of our own cast as The Great Intelligence. Nice touch.

Tonight's looks as if it might be distantly related to 'The Pyramids of Mars', which can only be a good thing in my opinion.

As always we're on Facebook and Twitter so head over and show your support by giving us a Like and a follow!

Until next time....
