THE PROP CUPBOARD OF OBSCURE DOOM... 6

Previous Prop Cupboard     Next Prop Cupboard

No Infinites this week. It has been far too long since we brought you some exploits from the Prop Cupboard and we've had this one in reserve for quite a while now. So here it is. You guys get to enjoy it and Nesshead gets an extra fortnight to get started on his contribution to the 50th Anniversary. I got some preview art from it the other day and you guys are going to love it!

Todays strip was initially the second part of one script, you've already seen the first part, but 2ndfade has so much fun with the visual aspects of my scripts that it ended up spread over two strips. At least that's my recollection, 2ndfade may remember it differently.

Either way it does highlight some changes in tone between the Classic Series and the New. The Movellans just wouldn't work in New Who, their design is very much of their time. I still think the Yeti could have worked and would have been scarier than the CGI Snowmen we ended up with, but at least there was a nod back to the Great Intelligence's roots.

The Time War with the Daleks had it's beginnings in the Classic series, Genesis of the Daleks in particular, but I always wondered how they hoped to take on the Time Lords given that the Movellans fought them to a standstill.

By the next time I see you I am hoping to have had my copy of Scream of the Shalka delivered, so expect some thoughts and comments about that to be voiced. Hopefully they'll do Curse of Fatal Death next.

Don't forget that we have Twitter and Facebook pages and that you can support us by visiting our store and buying something.

THE PROP CUPBOARD OF OBSCURE DOOM... 4

My wife is not a fan of Doctor Who. Not even slightly. She can't stand any aspect of it even in the slightest and she worries that it's too scary for the kids to watch with me, mostly because the one episode she did watch had Captain Darling turn into an Ood.

Why am I telling you this? Well partly it's to distract you all from the fact that this strip has an Ice Warrior complaining about not appearing in New Who the very same day they finally reappear in New Who and partly because 2nd Fade has produced the only bit of Who art that my wife has ever liked. She simply adored that my youngest daughter and Jim's newest son had been turned into cartoons for this strip.

Jim and I are pretty over the moon that our kids are now canon. Thanks, 2nd.

So, yeah, Ice Warriors.

What can I say? This strip is written pretty far in advance, Jim's drawn up to August and I really need to get him more scripts. When this was one put together there wasn't the slightest hint of them reappearing. Still 2nd Fade does a pretty cool Ice Warrior and we feel the need to show it off.

Let's not talk about the Zygon in the corner.

We're still on Facebook and Twitter and still appreciating everyone of you that finds us there.

IN PRINT EXTRA 6

                                                 First Previous Next Latest

We've not had an 'Extra' for a while, so here's one that Jim had hiding on his hard drive. I'm actually finding the strip a bit eerie as myself and Tone had been discussing a similar joke for The Wrong Doctor. As it happens we opted not to use it in strip and Tone put his own spin on it to make a Tshirt, which you should all go buy, but like I said it's a little eerie seeing it turn up somewhere else.

I've finally finished writing the Christmas Special, much to Jim's relief. I was looking over the art so far when I realised we were at page 15 and still had a few pages to go. Maybe we should have had this printed, what do you guys think?

A few of the pages I've been sent it a little similar to the Target cover Jim's put up today. Partly because some of them are drawn by 2nd Fade and partly because... well I can't tell you why. Not just yet at any rate.

Anyway, as it stands you'll be seeing the entire story published live on the page on Christmas day! Or perhaps late Christmas Eve as both myself and Jim have families and our wife's may not be happy seeing us on our computers when we should be indulging in family activities.

Either way; it'll be available at Christmas. And like a certain other popular show we may have a few surprise guest stars; celebrity and Sontaran. Stay tuned.

For the record; we had our Sontaran booked long before anyone knew that one would be appearing in the BBC's Who entry for Christmas.

I'd love to say great minds think alike, but I suspect it was pure luck.

Right time for me to go, but before I do just enough time to remind you to check out our Twitter and Facebook feeds.

See you all next week.

IN PRINT EPISODE 39

Wasn't it just?

What might have happened if the Master had discovered the Valeyard's little project? It's a good question, but a better one might be why does he keep regenerating?

Obviously I know the answer to that one, but I'd love to hear what you guys think about that...

Anyway, I've been putting it off but at some point I should really tell you what I thought of the Angels take Manhattan:

I didn't hate it, but like anything that has that kind of hype and build up it could never live up to expectations. I don't buy the finality of the whole scenario, Rose was left in a much more isolated situation and she came back. We'll see the Ponds again, just as soon as the Doctor realises he could just hire a car and drive to Manhattan from any other state or pick the Ponds up a few years into their exile.

I still maintain that I would have enjoyed this episode an awful lot more if we hadn't known how it was going to end. Which is why I'm not spilling about the Master or the Continuity Wars.

Anyway....

Hartnell's wig from last week seems to have generated quite a bit of positive response as well as his own twitter account. Don't worry, we haven't seen the last of this particular character (is that the right word, should I say prop?), 2nd Fade and myself have some plans ahead. But before I get onto them I really need to finish writing the Christmas Special for this year, especially given that I received the three of the first few pages in my Inbox this week. They all look fantastic, but you'll need to wait to see them.

In other news it appears a former member of the Who cast and a man very much still involved in the Who community dipped his toe into a certain reality program this week. I don't watch it so I can't really comment. However Jim has taken time to provide us with credits to this weeks strip in homage to the man. Very retro.

However it goes without saying that all of us here at In Print wish him the best of luck in this particular trial. Just watch out for men in black....

I need to go sleep now but before I go there's just enough time to remind you all that we're still on Twitter and Facebook, feel free to follow and like us there.

THE PROP CUPBOARD OF OBSCURE DOOM... 3

I think assigning the words to me this week is a little misleading. I came up with the concept behind the strip and the contestants, more on that in a moment, but the actual lyrics this week were all picked by 2nd Fade and I'd be lying if I said I didn't have to look up any of them.

Well apart from the first one.

However they struck an instant chord (a ha!) with Jim, it would seem that he and 2nd Fade have pretty similar tastes in music. I'm a Springsteen man myself.

The contestants for today's strip were pretty easy. I've been begging 2nd to use William Hartnell's Wig and a Cactus dressed as Tom Baker since we first came up with the Prop Cupboard. It would have happened sooner, but 2nd was utterly convinced I was making up the existence of the wig. Anyway, eventually he found a picture that proved it existed and it finally made its way into the strip. I may have it in a duel to the death with Paul McGann's wig at some point just to mess with him.

I can be evil that way sometimes. Just ask Jim about the cast list for the Christmas Special....

I've been dying to use a Kroton for ages now and it's all Lawrence Miles' fault. He made them cool again. If you don't believe me then pick up a copy of Alien Bodies.

Although there's no music assigned to the Ice Warrior DJs Jim has decided they're playing Vanilla Ice's riff on Under Pressure. I can't bring myself to utter it's name.

Anyway, we're careening towards the end of the current arc next week and we should wrap up in nice time to run the Christmas Special.

Our following on Twitter and Facebook, is growing. We all really appreciate every single one of you that follows or likes us. It means an awful lot. We even appreciate those of you that just read the strip, although we'd be happier if you liked us as well.

Maybe I'll discuss the Angels next week...

THE PROP CUPBOARD OF OBSCURE DOOM... 2

                                                                  Previous Next

Here we go; it's the second Prop Cupboard of Obscure Doom as drawn by 2nd Fade.

And as luck would have it there's a reference to 'Asylum of the Daleks', which I think may be the title of tonight's Doctor Who.

I think...

So, new Who tonight! I can't wait, even if it is only for a few weeks. To celebrate Jim seems to have drawn more Daleks. Not that Jim ever needs an excuse to draw more Daleks. They're part of, as yet, unrevealed project.

Anyway, I'm off now as there is much celebrating in my house today and not just because of New Who.

See you all next week.

As usual keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook feeds and we'll see you all again next week.

THE PROP CUPBOARD OF OBSCURE DOOM... BY 2ND FADE

We've been itching to show this strip off for a while now and with Jesse being on holiday it presented the perfect opportunity.

The Prop Cupboard of Obscure Doom is a new spin off strip for In Print. It would seem that when 2nd Fade did us a guest strip a few months back he caught the comic bug again and was interested in doing more guest strips for us. Myself and Jim were such fans of his work that we started discussing bringing Mr Fade (that may not be his real name) on as a regular contributor.

So, we through ideas back and forward and eventually came up with The Prop Cupboard of Obscure Doom. After all the old monsters from Classic Who have to be hiding somewhere and the notion that the monsters that hadn't been in New Who yet would be gathered there and less than happy about some of the creatures that had managed to get an outing.

The Macra for example.

So, expect to see more from the Cupboard as time marches on. Next week sees Jim return with the regular strip and the week after the Infinity Doctors return their tale.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, work continues on the Christmas Special for this year. Which reminds me if any of you can draw in a style which wouldn't be out of place in a DWM comic strip then we'd like to hear from you.

As usual you can follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
