IN PRINT EPISODE 66

I was going to discuss the TV Christmas Special, but since I'm not utterly convinced you've all seen it yet and I'm pressed for time this morning I'm going to leave it for just now.
Instead I'm going to encourage you to try and guess what the last surviving member of our regular cast just jumped into. It shouldn't be hard to guess to be fair. Although descriptions of it were really hard to track down I think Jim's done a great job of bringing it to visual life.
Speaking of Jim, he's taken on himself to try and get one last strip to you before the end of the year. So, keep your eyes open and you might just see another strip on New Year's Eve. Whatever happens you'll still see the debut of mine and Jesse Lax's holiday arc. I'm excited about bringing this to you as it begins setting up In Print for the coming year.

In other news I have something pretty big in the pipeline and I'm hoping to be able to bring you news of it early in 2014 although if you follow our Facebook and Twitter pages you might already have worked it out from some posts I've made there in the last few months.
Anyway, hope you all had a Merry Christmas (where applicable) and are chilling as I type this. See you all in either a few days or next week.

IN PRINT EPISODE 64
That. That right there. That, in my opinion, is the best panel that Jim has ever done.
I've just been staring at it. It's quite haunting.
Anyway, it's quite fitting that today's strip has 4 regenerated into 7. If you haven't seen Day of the Doctor yet then turn away now.
Seriously. Now.
Not in a few lines; now.
We clear?
Clear.
That, dear readers, is how you use Tom Baker in New Who. The Once and Future Doctor. Of course he was the Doctor, why wouldn't he be? He gives a nice balancing point to the Valeyard, except he's a bit more, well, solid than the Valeyard. He's what the Doctor has been looking for for a very long time; he represents a happy ending.
I love the idea that after all the adventures and wanderings are done he gets to be Tom again. It's a lovely thought and was worth the price of admission all by itself.
Between the Curator, the War Doctor and 12 (briefly) we were treated to three new (kind of) Doctors. It was fun. Certainly it had it's flaws, 7 changing costume especially bothered me, but you can't deny the love that went into that.
And did anyone else think that last scene could have been taken from the In Print Verse?

Right. Well.

I rather enjoyed that.
Lots to talk about. Lots to discuss. However for various reasons not all the team has seen it yet, so I'm going to wait until next week to tell you what I thought of it.
Short version: I really enjoyed it. It had a few flaws, but they're very easy to forgive given the sheer amount of things they got right.
The only other thing I'll say is that I am totally in love with the character of the curator. One single scene and I already love him.
Oh yeah and there's a strip. Stuff happens, but in 1D rather than 3D. We'll have more for you next week. We'll be releasing them as Jim finishes drawing them so keep your eyes peeled.
I'm off to watch it on my telly now. Won't be as cool as 3D on the big screen, but there are a couple of moments that demand revisiting.
I'm going to file it under research for the strip....

IN PRINT EPISODE 62

So that's what happens, you get five versions of the same Time Lord regenerating at once.
Right, be honest; who was expecting that?
Jim really knocked that one out of the park didn't he? So, yeah, everything just changed in the In Print Verse. We've lost two of our cast and those that are still around have post regenerational trauma and a new wardrobe to deal with. At least they will have once they deal with the Grandfather.
Presuming they do deal with the Grandfather that is...
Right, I'm booked to see 'The Day of the Doctor' at 9.30pm UK time, presuming my wee girl is doing ok. Jim's going at the same time, but to a different showing (a shame really). Anyone trying to discuss the Special with us before we've finished seeing it will be ignored. Sorry guys, I've gone this long without spoilers...
See you on the other side!

Nope, it's not good. Not good at all.
I've just shoe horned in a Star Trek joke. Oh well.
"A chronologically advanced and evil version of Movie boy." I'd forgotten I'd gone for that description. That works a lot better than my attempt at describing the Grandfather yesterday.
So, one of our Doctors is no more. What do you think happens when part of the Doctor's hard drive gets wiped? I mean apart from Matt Smith rolling on the floor in pain that is.
You'll get to find out tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be the highlight of your day.
Can't imagine there's anything else happening...

What can I say; TNG was big back in the 90s and up until last week that was the best place to find 8.

Anyway, I need to skip ahead 24 hours. As you may have noticed this strip has appeared on Thursday, this is because we're going daily from here through to the day after the 50th Special. So we'll see you back here tomorrow with the next part of Paradox Now.
Well I'll see you in a few moments, but you get my drift...

IN PRINT EPISODE 58
Right, so you ight have noticed that this isn't the next instalment of The Grand Tour fro The Infinites. You're right; it isn't. Nesshead has been having problems with his mouse pad and is a little behind schedule. I can relate; my 'm', comma apostrophe and @ key are all broken and I'm having to use the On-Screen Keyboard to access them. It's a really annoying issue.
So instead we have the next instalment of Paradox now instead and we've invoked fan service and continuity as a result. Colin Baker's beard was a fan request. These are written and drawn in advance so I forget who exactly asked for the beard -I tried looking back over past conversations with Jim, but we text/Email/PM quite a bit so it's a bit like searching for a needle in a haystack- but I' pretty sure it was one of the two Steves. The Two Steves (who needs The Two Doctors?) are pretty active on our Facebook page and when one of them suggested we should use Colin Baker's beard in the strip we felt it was only fair to oblige, also it was a pretty good way of differentiating between Six and the imposter.
We saw Six making his break for freedom a short while back and we've been hinting for a while that the six that had been in the strip from the beginning wasn't all he seemed. This revelation puts this strip in an entirely new light I feel.
It's almost as if I have a plan....
I started a new project this last week. I've started planning a book. The plan, at this stage, is that I'll write a book about the non-canon Doctors, a guide really. I'm quite excited about the idea and I'm currently working on putting a pitch together for it. The chapter summery is already in place. So if any of you happen to publish Who non-fiction books or some one who does then feel free to get in touch...

IN PRINT EPISODE 57
And so it begins. Paradox Now is going to be replacing our Christmas Special this year and as such it will be running all the way through November. In fact we are hoping to update a lot more during November, not quite daily, but certainly more than once a week.
Jim's is working away on the buffer just now, and as November begins we will make a decision on the update schedule. This is the real reason the Classic Doctors are not appearing in 'The Day of the Doctor' you know, we had them booked.
In regards to today's strip, I always wondered just what that equipment was really used for when I saw the TV movie. I mean, really, it does look as if it was designed for torture or for, well, you know....
As for Grandfather Paradox? He's from the books, the EDAs specifically. I was always struck by the coincidental similarities he shared with the 9th Doctor, you couldn't have planned it really. Jim has taken elements of 8 and 9 to create our version of the Grandfather. The leather coat and the umbrella are my contributions. The umbrella to note the fact that the Grandfather was first mentioned in 'Christmas on a rational planet' which was a NA.
So, for everyone who thought the Valeyard was the big bad? Well keep watching....
Round three of the Grand Tour next week, then we will return to Paradox Now.

First things first; apologies.
Oh and spoiler warning if you haven't seen 'The Name of the Doctor' yet. In factif you haven't don't read the rest of this blog. Seriously, I'm going to be discussing it. At length.
I'm sorry. I hate spoilers, I really, really do and if I'd thought for one second that last weeks strip was going to include details from that nights episode then I wouldn't have run it.
So, yeah, sorry, guys.
But what an episode! There were several points were I felt I was watching a live version of the strip. After all the Doctor's Timeline seems to be a version of our own little Post Temporal Psychic Construct, although apparently you can discuss Series 24 in there version. Go figure.

Not just that, but the actor that played the Shalka Doctor was our guide. Now at last we have a potential origin story for him within the main continuity. I mean could he really live the Doctor's life along side him and not become like him in some fashion? And just how did the Shalka Doctor get into this strip anyway?
Hmmmmmmm.
But the highlight for me was seeing the Valeyard dragged kicking and screaming back into the main continuity. I've nothing against the Dream Lord, in fact I quite like him, but it was nice to see the Valeyard getting a name check as a future Doctor. Made my night that did.
Oh and while I remember, the more observant of you may have noticed that the newest Infinites was due up today. Unfortunately Nesshead suffered an IT crisis and Jim was able to step in to plug the gap and as luck would have it the next strip Jim had ready had the Infinites guest starring. And quite an apt episode as well. The Infinites continues next week.
In the mean time we're still on Facebook and Twitter as always and we'll see you all next week.

IN PRINT EXTRA... 7
Spoilers.
Maybe, perhaps, could be.
Probably not though.
There is a strip here, it's just underneath this text to give you guys a chance to decide if you want to risk being spoiled. In my opinion we've presented nothing but fan speculation and as such the strip is a perfectly safe read. But it wouldn't be the first time we've managed to hit the nail on the head completely by accident as a community.
Let's just say that it involves the casting of the Anniversary episode. Someone not unfamiliar to being cast in genre media. Someone who may, or may not, be dressed in some familiar clothes and a very familiar coat.
Anyway, the strip is just underneath. Make your mind up and I'll talk to you again in a moment...

And there you have it; possibly the first bit of fan art of John Hurt as the new 9th Doctor. Or 8 and a half Doctor. Or something like that.
I personally think that Jim has knocked this one out of the park. In fact I have the initial sketch he did for this strip and if I ever get my own office then it'll be getting hung up there. It'd be a hell of a shame if John Hurt wasn't the Doctor now.
Maybe we'll find out tonight if he is. Who knows? Apart from the handful of Americans who recieved an advance copy of the DVD, I've kept out of their way though. I'll find out once my kids have gone to bed, much like I did for 'Nightmare in Silver'. Which was fun, wasn't it? I certainly enjoyed it. The last time Neil Gaiman wrote for the Doctor we got the wonderful 'The Doctor's Wife' which spawned this Extra for us and later introduced the character of Mrs T into or strip. 2nd Fade is currently working on our second Gaiman themed strip and I look forward to showing it off.
In the mean time I plan to go back to bed and try ignoring the rest of the world until I can commandeer the living room telly for myself.
How hard could that possibly be?
We can be disturbed through Facebook and Twitter as always.
