IN PRINT - 124

                                             Previous Strip  Next Strip

And now we're referencing 'Cold Fusion'. The book at any rate. I've only listened to half the audio as I had to send my phone for repair with my review copy and by the time Carphone Warehouse admitted they'd lost it the window for downloading and listening to the review copy was gone.

Every so often they contact me to ask why I haven't gone back to them. Cold Fusion, that's why. Well that and generally crappy service.

But I digress.

We didn't get round to fixing the links this week, so possible disruption this week. What I did manage to do was go through the entire site (there's a lot of it these days) and got a list of all the broken links. I'm also planning to simplify the navigation.

See you all next week.

In Print - 97

Lungbarrow references aplenty in this strip, so much so in fact that I'm afraid you might not enjoy this strip much unless you've read it or it's wiki entry. As it happens I've read both, I was fortunate enough to download a copy of Lungbarrow from the BBC website before they withdrew it.

The drudges that are serving the drinks aren't the same as the wooden creatures that were in a certain Christmas special from a few years, but extensions of the House of Lungbarrow and given that the 7/8th Doctor TARDIS is meant to be partly based on the House design it's strange that they haven't turned up before. I'd have to re-read the book, but I'm reasonably sure Jim's added a few details. The beards mostly.

I'm still trying to work out how I felt about last week's Doctor Who. I don't mind the amount of time taken to explore themes of immortality, but I wasn't convinced by Lion-O. That part of the episode just didn't click for me.

In other news Kasterborous is back up and running. I've even got a new article up. Mind you so does the Valeyard....

IN PRINT - EPISODE 71

If you haven't read Cold Fusion by Lance Parkin then you're missing out. It was, in my opinion, the best of the Missing Adventures and is one of my favourite Who books ever. I can't go into too much detail of what I love about it without spoiling it for you, but all you need to know for todays strip is that it features the 5th and 7th Doctors and they don't get on as well as they could.

Mind you when does the Doctor get on with himself? Most multi Doctor stories have him at odds with himself even if he usually does manage to work with himself in the end. 'The Day of the Doctor' was just the most recent example of this.

And there's the Others back as well, this strip is just packed with book references this week isn't it? I'm enjoying getting more of them in. Actually that last panel is Jim's version of this strip drawn by Nesshead. There you go, our very own mini crossover...

We should take a moment to appreciate how fortunate we are as a fandom in the wake of the news from the Star Wars Expanded Universe this week. Star Wars fans have lost whole lines of comics and books this week as Disney reset what counts as continuity leading up to Episode 7. Whovians might argue (and we will) about how canon the 91-05 books are, but at least they've never been officially struck from the record and a show about time travel can afford a little play with it's continuity. Uncle Walt's people have managed to wipe out more generations of Skywalkers than the Emperor ever could.

Like I said; lets take a moment.

In other news today marks the start of the 2014 arcs from In Print. Jim's put together a poster to mark the occasion. We easily influenced if any of you want it as a Tshirt or poster.

I have some fun plans in place for this year and I can't wait to see Jim, Nesshead and 2nd Fade bring them to life. There might even be another run from Jesse if all goes well.

It's going to be a fun year I think.

Oh and a quick reminder that Jim has created a Facebook group for In Print. I would urge you all to join it, especially if you've not been getting all of our updates. We've found that although we have about 5,000 of you liking us on Facebook that each update tends to reach less than 200 of you. Being part of the group means that you should see each and every update. We've also been showing off pre-strip sketches and alternate designs for some characters. Come and join us, it's going to be fun!

THE INFINITES Strip 22

Here we go.

It's the Other(s) again. We last saw them in the conclusion of 'Paradox Now'. They're appearing here as the 7th Doctor was more in tune to his possible past selves than the other Doctors, as detailed at various points during the 'New Adventures'.

I've been looking forward to this one for a long time now, the concept of the Other is what edges the 'New Adventures' past the other books from the 91-05 period for me. It's also no accident that outside that range my favourite books remain 'The Infinity Doctors' and 'Cold Fusion'.

The Other also got some vague references throughout Series 25 and 26 (we don't talk about Series 24) in amongst various games of chess.

So, yeah, this strip is more than a little bit indulgent for me. I hope you guys enjoy it just as much.

IN PRINT EPISODE 69

Anyone who checks Paul Hanley's dA page on a regular basis will know exactly who this larger than life character is. Although truth be told he wasn't part of the initial script for 'Paradox Now'. We'd just finished putting together our designs for the Others (with lots of help from Sasha Lipinsky) with Paul published his version of the Other, with design input from Lance Parkin no less. So I went cap in hand to ask Paul if we could use his version in the strip. Luckily Paul gracefully agreed and so we have today's very special guest star.

Paul is a big fan of alternate Doctors, like myself, as can be seen from his latest artwork. How many of them can  you name? I had to look up two...

Next week we have the finale to 'Paradox Now' and then we're going to run the last of Nesshead's 'Grand Tour'. Providing of course that he's recovered from Gallifrey One by that point of course, he seems to have had a lot of fun. How many of you saw him?

Don't forget that we have Twitter and Facebook pages and that you can support us by visiting our store and buying something.

See you all next week.

IN PRINT EPISODE 68

What sad timing.

We lost Christopher Barry recently, one of the Founding Fathers of Who. Even a quick scan of his resume tells you need to know; 'The Daleks', 'The Daemons' and my personal favourite 'The Brain of Morbius'.

In fact 'The Brain of Morbius' is what makes today's strip so sad in terms of timing, apart from directing it Mr Barry also made a brief appearance of 'The Morbius Doctors'. For those of you that don't know these Doctors appeared during the Mind Bending sequence and were originally inteneded to represent the first eight (and unseen) Doctors, making William Hartnell the 9th Doctor. It didn't take however and by the time of 'The Five Doctors' Hartnell was back to being the original. An unsuccessful attempt was made to bring in some big acting names to play the first eight Doctors, but in the end eight members of the Production team stood in instead, Mr Barry included.

So that's who the faces belong to. Their clothing comes from different Gallifreyan eras and we owe a massive thank you to Sasha Lipinsky for photoshopping the faces onto the costumes to give Jim and Nesshead a good photo reference to draw them.

The Other is a character from the 'New Adventures' who may or may not be a previous incarnation of the Doctor. The reveal of this character lead to the assumption by many fans that the eight faces belonged to him.

We'll see more of them next week.

In other news Nesshead is currently wondering around Gallifrey One! If you see him feel free to go up and say hello, he's mostly tame these days.
