As far as I'm concerned this could have easily appeared as a scene in The Timeless Children. Easily.
Whatever else you think of what Chibnall has done you can't argue that he hadn't thrown wide the doors of canon and invited every version of the Doctor in.
Thanks to this retcon and various mindwipes there isn't a Doctor who doesn't fit into continuity now if you squint hard enough.
